You are almost correct; actually Papa Aldo’s was merged with Murphys Pizza (another great old pizza place) to create the Papa Murphy’s brand in the early 1990s. The Papa Murphy’s you know today combines the best elements of both Papa Aldo’s and Murphy’s Pizza.
Good Question! In the 1980’s, Papa Aldo’s revolutionized our favorite food by creating a great pizza that you can cook at home on your own schedule. This website is a tribute to Pizza and to the idea of creating an amazing home-cooked pie.
Papa Aldo’s was known to make a great pie, but in our opinion, the best pizza is the pizza that YOU make. Only you get to truly control exactly what goes into your pizza, how many toppings go on, and what type of crust is used. Take and Bake is one of the best options if you do not have the time to make your own pizza, however with some of the “quick and easy” pizza recipes in our recipe section, you should always be able to make great pizza at home!
It makes us sad too – Papa Aldo’s was one of the greats in pizza history. Never before had we been able to quickly create great pizza on our time, and for those of us who aren’t so good in the kitchen, Papa Aldo’s was one of the first home-cooked meals we ever made! Papa Aldo’s is gone, but the idea of great home-cooked pizza lives on. Check out our recipe section to find some great do-it-yourself pizza recipes that are sure to make you a hit at your next party!
That’s not a question, and we didn’t take any of your money. We searched for the best recipes online and found some great ones, but Pizza is an art, not a science.
All bread requires a certain amount of practice and patience to perfect.
Next time you make pizza dough, you can adjust the thickness during the “rolling and stretching” phase, the crispiness during cooking (pizza stones will give a more consistent,
crispy and moist crust), and the dryness by adding or removing oil from the recipe. If you are using a lot of veggies, you might want to roast them a bit before-hand,
because a lot of the water contained in veggies can soak right into your pizza and cause sogginess! Having a hard time getting your pizza off of the cooking sheet or
stone after baking? Spread some cornmeal on the stone or sheet before baking, this will allow the pizza to easily slide on and off after baking!
Pizza is how you make it. If you go to any of the major chain pizza parlors, you will likely not be able to find a truly healthy pizza, however at home some minor changes to the recipe can make a huge difference! Instead of using all-purpose flour, try a mixture of rye flower and whole-grain flower with white bread flour, we have also seen some great results with oats and whole-wheat pastry flour. As for toppings, you can make your own healthy pizza sauce by sautéing peeled tomatoes with garlic and herbs, and top with low-fat mozzarella and roasted veggies. Not a fan of red sauce? You can find a great recipe for white garlic sauce in our recipe section.
